School Closures

With a winter storm forecasted for this weekend, we've decided to close the school until weather conditions improve. Be sure to check out the latest issue of The Raven's Quill for updates and schedule adjustments, or feel free to send us an email and we'll happy to provide more info or answer any inquiries. Stay safe out there!

June Raven's Quill Corrections

We need to call out some incorrect information in this month's Raven's Quill newsletter (June 2025). There are some course dates on the front-page calendar that specify 2024 instead 2025 for when they will be held. All dates should read 2025. We apologize for any confusion.

Beginning Drawing Classes

Our Beginning Drawing classes for the current semester are completely full, but the next session starting in June is available for sign ups. Check out the latest edition of The Raven's Quill for dates and info, and see more news about other classes and fun stuff for the month of April!

Huge Kudos for JC Chapman

Longtime student and friend of the Raven's Wing School of Art JC Chapman was featured as a Transylvania Community Arts Council's member artist of the month. Congratulations, JC! Here is what they had to say in their latest news letter:

"Our featured artist this month is JC Chapman. JC is a member of the Transylvania Art Guild, and her work has been displayed in multiple exhibits at the Arts Council, including most recently the TAG Summer Showcase, as well in several other venues.

JC describes the beginning of her life as an artist: "I began my artist journey in Murphy, NC about 12 years ago taking acrylic landscape classes at the community college - and fell in love with art!" Later, JC moved to Brevard where she's continued to develop her skill in multiple art forms with classes in drawing, watercolor, and pastel.

Of the media she uses, JC says, "I am especially obsessed with drawing and painting portraits in graphite, charcoal, pastel pencil, and acrylic." As a member of the TAG, JC has not only connected with fellow artist friends, but also had opportunities to learn from art programs that exhibit her work. Recently, she has been developing he craft with artist, teacher, and mentor Don Blackwell at his studio in Flat Rock.

JC can be contacted by email at jcchap45@yahoo.com. We are grateful to have JC's talent on display at the Arts Council and invite you to visit our exhibits and see her work!"

Poetry Class Upate

As mentioned in the previous post, acclaimed poet Richard Morgan will be teaching poetry writing classes at Raven's Wing. The course will be four two-hour sessions (10AM to Noon) on November 10, 17 & December 1, 8. Here is a biography for Richard:

"Richard Morgan has published ten books of poetry. His latest two books,
Poems of Your Own: A Guide to Writing Personal Poetry and Poems About Poems and Poets, give insight and inspiration into the process of writing personal poetry. In each of his collections, his poems are eclectic, partly personal, and always accessible. Pat Morgan, Richard's wife, has contributed watercolors to most of the books adding a special dimension to the poems. In 2018 they moved from the Jersey shore to a mountainside here in Hendersonville."

School Reopening

We are very happy and excited to announce the reopening of classes here at Raven's Wing! We are requiring that everyone be vaccinated to attend due to some of folks having compromised immune systems and health conditions. The governor has lifted the mask mandate and we are going with that guidance, so at this point masks are optional. However, we will supply masks for anyone preferring to wear one. Thank you, and let's get busy making art!
